Vietnam Celebrates 81 Years of Independence, Highlighting Economic Growth and Global Role

Vietnam is celebrating its 81st anniversary of National Day, marking significant progress in nation-building and an increasingly prominent presence on the global stage. Since the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945, Vietnam has transformed from a poor and underdeveloped nation into a dynamic economy. Four decades after the Doi Moi (Renewal) policy, Vietnam has achieved remarkable economic milestones, including a GDP of $514 billion in 2025, an economic growth rate of 8.02%, total trade turnover of $930 billion, and over $38.4 billion in registered foreign direct investment (FDI). This progress is guided by the Party Central Committee's focus on studying and practicing President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, moral example, methods, and style in the new development period. On the occasion of National Day, Vietnamese Party and State leaders participated in events honoring the legacy of President Ho Chi Minh. Memorial sites and relics associated with him across the country were visited, emphasizing the importance of passing on his great legacy to future generations and introducing it to international visitors. On the international front, Vietnam has expressed its readiness to serve as a bridge to promote cooperation between ASEAN and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). This aims to strengthen connectivity between Southeast Asia and Central Asia, and the broader Eurasian region, thereby expanding areas of cooperation, enhancing strategic autonomy, and delivering tangible benefits to its people. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, on the sidelines of the expanded SCO Summit in Kyrgyzstan, held meetings with the UN Secretary-General and other senior officials, reaffirming the importance of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan. Agreements were also reached to translate the Vietnam-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into practical cooperation in science and technology, agricultural trade, environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development. The US Department of State commended Vietnam's growing leadership as a partner to the US, particularly its distinguished role as a founding member supporting the Board of Peace. Greetings were also extended by leaders of various countries to their Vietnamese counterparts on the occasion of National Day. Vietnam attaches great importance to its special solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperation with Cuba, and is confident that the Cuban Party, State, and people will achieve new successes in national development. The nation also values its friendship and cooperation with African countries, with Ethiopia being an important partner.
