Thailand Updates Visa Rules for 65 Countries, India Gets 30-Day Exemption
The Thai Cabinet has approved new visa facilitation measures for 65 countries. India and 59 other nations will benefit from a 30-day visa exemption, aiming to simplify entry and enhance screening. Announced by the Tourism Authority of Thailand on July 16, the rules take effect 15 days after publication in the Royal Gazette.
The Thai Cabinet has approved updated visa measures affecting 65 countries, aimed at facilitating entry while enhancing screening processes. On July 16, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced that new guidelines for visa exemptions and Visa on Arrival have been approved and are set to become effective 15 days after their publication in the Royal Gazette. The updated approach adheres to the principle of "one country or territory, one entry category," with eligibility determined by economic factors, security, international relations, and reciprocity. The categories will include 30-day visa exemptions, 15-day visa exemptions, or Visa on Arrival. Out of the 65 affected countries and territories, 59, including India, will now be eligible for a 30-day visa exemption. This aligns visa treatment across all EU member states and could support discussions for Schengen visa exemption for Thai nationals. While the new measures await implementation, existing entry conditions will remain in effect. Foreign nationals entering before the changes will retain their current stay permissions. Bilateral agreements continue to provide visa exemptions of varying durations. Security agencies are also set to enhance the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system for improved screening and verification. Visitors are advised to monitor official announcements from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and embassies for the latest requirements applicable to their nationality. TAT will provide further details upon official publication. Source : Thai Cabinet approves updated visa measures pending Royal Gazette publication
