Three Killed, One Injured in Takeo Truck-Motorcycle Collision

Three people were killed and one seriously injured after a large truck collided with several motorcycles on National Road 2 in Takeo province early this morning, July 13. Police are searching for the driver, who fled the scene. The crash occurred at about 6.35am in Ta Yeung village, Chumneas Pen commune, Samraong district, between kilometre markers 54 and 55. Witnesses described a devastating scene, saying several victims were left lying on the road while others were thrown into a roadside drainage canal by the force of the impact. Residents who witnessed the collision said the truck was travelling at very high speed before the driver apparently lost control and ploughed into multiple motorcycles. According to authorities, the driver abandoned the truck and fled on foot immediately after the crash. The truck involved in the collision is a tractor-trailer bearing Phnom Penh registration plate 3E-2004. Videos shared by witnesses on social media showed emergency responders assisting victims at the scene, while one motorcycle caught fire following the collision. Although eyewitnesses initially feared the death toll could be higher, preliminary findings released by Takeo provincial authorities confirmed that the crash involved a truck transporting steel, and three motorcycles. Two 16-year-old boys on one motorcycle were killed as they travelled to classes in Phnom Penh. Nuon Buntha was studying air-conditioning repair, while Phorn Chanthan was studying culinary arts. Keng Pov, 35-year-old schoolteacher, was also killed when his motorcycle was struck. Ry Sinat, a 26-year-old construction contractor from Kandal province, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Bati Referral Hospital for emergency treatment. Police said the investigation is continuing, with efforts underway to locate the truck driver.
