Cambodia Forecasts Heavy Fog and Adverse Weather Starting This Week

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced on September 14th that dense fog is highly likely to occur across Cambodia from today until Wednesday, September 16th. This is attributed to low-pressure systems developing over the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the South China Sea, which are influencing the southwest monsoon affecting the Mekong River basin, the Cambodian sea, and the country. During this period, there is a 60% to 70% chance of rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms. The central lowlands are expected to experience these phenomena with a 60% probability, while coastal and highland areas face a higher probability of up to 70%. Furthermore, the ministry warned that sea waves could reach a height of 1.70 meters in coastal regions, urging caution. This weather forecast could impact Cambodia's agricultural and fishing sectors, as well as its tourism industry. The adverse weather towards the end of the rainy season raises concerns about potential damage to crops nearing harvest. Additionally, high waves along the coast may affect the safe operation of fishing vessels and beach activities for tourists. Cambodia has been identified as one of the countries highly vulnerable to climate change impacts. Addressing such extreme weather events is therefore a pressing issue.
