Eximbank has appointed former Techcombank CEO Nguyen Le Quoc Anh as its new Chairman. The bank also welcomed four new independent board members, all foreign nationals with extensive experience in finance and banking, signaling a strategic shift towards restructuring and internationalization.

Eximbank has elected Nguyen Le Quoc Anh, former CEO of Techcombank, as its new Chairman following an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders on July 24. The bank also appointed a new board of directors, largely composed of foreign nationals with extensive experience in the financial sector. Mr. Anh, who also serves as an independent member and legal representative of the bank, replaced Ms. Pham Thi Huyen Trang. The newly appointed independent board members are Richa Goswami, Ooi Huey Tyng, Chua Teck Huat Bill, and Michael Richard Harte. All four are foreign nationals and bring over 30 years of experience in finance and banking. Additionally, Nguyen Quoc Hung was appointed as Chairman of the Control Board and a member of the Control Board. The new board of directors comprises six newly elected members who have no prior work experience with Eximbank. Mr. Anh is widely recognized for his tenure as CEO of Techcombank from 2016 to 2020. He later rejoined the market in late 2022 as a board member of VNG but resigned after three months. He is currently the CEO of One Globe Consulting Group. Born in 1966, Mr. Anh holds a Ph.D. in Nuclear Technology from Purdue University and a Master's degree from California State University. He has held senior management positions at companies such as T-Mobile US, Wells Fargo Bank, Fortress Investment Group, and McKinsey. In terms of financial performance, Eximbank reported a pre-tax profit of VND 730 billion in the first half of 2026, a decrease of over 50% compared to the same period last year. As of the end of the second quarter, total assets stood at VND 266.5 trillion, a decrease of approximately VND 6 trillion from the end of the year. Deposits reached VND 192.6 trillion, with outstanding loans exceeding VND 200 trillion. The non-performing loan ratio was 2.88%, below the bank's planned target of 3%. Gelex Group has been a significant shareholder in Eximbank since July 2025, holding over 1% of the bank's capital. Gelex is currently the largest investor, with a 10% stake. Following Gelex's involvement, Eximbank entered a restructuring phase and relocated its headquarters from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi earlier this year.
