Livestreaming Boosts Vietnamese Goods Beyond Local Markets
Livestreaming is emerging as a powerful tool for Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises and cooperatives, popularizing products like OCOP-certified goods online. However, rising platform fees signal the end of an era of low-cost e-commerce.
Livestreaming is playing a crucial role in expanding the reach of Vietnamese goods beyond local markets. Products from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and cooperatives, particularly those certified under the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) program, are gaining significant popularity online. This trend highlights Vietnam's ongoing digitalization and the potential for regional specialties to reach a wider consumer base nationwide. However, challenges are emerging regarding e-commerce platform usage. When factoring in fixed fees, payment processing, infrastructure charges, and service packages, sellers may have to allocate approximately 24.5-27.6% of their revenue to these platforms. This indicates that the era of easy selling and low costs in e-commerce has officially concluded. Management agencies are urged to strengthen coordination and data sharing with digital platforms, preserve electronic evidence, and prevent sellers whose accounts have been blocked from quickly resuming business under new identities. This is crucial for maintaining a fair competitive environment and ensuring that small businesses are not unduly burdened. Vietnam is projected to remain a growth leader in Southeast Asia for the 2026-2035 period, according to a report released on September 16 by the US's Bain & Company, Singapore's DBS Bank, and Vriens & Partners. The advancement of digitalization and the adoption of new sales channels like livestreaming are considered key contributors to this economic growth. Furthermore, Quang Tri province has seen 77 wind power projects, with a combined capacity of 2,609 MW, incorporated into the revised Power Development Plan VIII, signaling Vietnam's acceleration of investment in renewable energy. With 17 free trade agreements (FTAs) and a stable investment environment, Vietnam continues to be a top priority for international corporations seeking new supply sources, underscoring its growing importance in the global supply chain.
