A man, identified by the initial KD, has died in Bali after allegedly being beaten by residents who accused him of stealing a chicken. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, July 24, 2026, in Banjar Dinas Juwuk Legi, Batunya Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan Regency. AKBP Rina Isriana Dewi, Head of the Public Relations Sub-Division of the Bali Regional Police, stated on Saturday, July 25, 2026, that the police are investigating the cause of the victim's death and the alleged criminal acts involved. Initial investigations revealed that the incident began around 01:30 WITA when KD allegedly attempted to steal a chicken belonging to a resident named I Wayan Adi Suteja. Witnesses among the residents then apprehended KD collectively. During the confrontation, KD reportedly suffered a mob beating and died at the scene. Police arrived at the location around 02:00 WITA, secured the crime scene, conducted an examination, and collected evidence. Among the items secured were the chicken, a machete believed to belong to KD, a bag containing pliers, a slingshot, stones, and cash. KD's motorcycle, which had been burned by residents, was also found. Rina noted that the alleged chicken theft occurred amidst growing community unrest due to a recent spate of livestock thefts. However, she emphasized that the police will thoroughly investigate the alleged criminal acts in accordance with applicable laws. "We urge the public not to take matters into their own hands and to hand over the handling of any alleged criminal acts to law enforcement officials," Rina said, as quoted by Antara.
