BFP Urges Proactive Evacuations Amid Rainy Season

During the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Kapihan forum on Thursday, Fire Superintendent Anthony Arroyo, chief of the BFP Public Information Service, emphasized the importance of proactive measures to minimize damage. Arroyo encouraged residents to voluntarily move to safer grounds without waiting for official directives, a move aimed at facilitating swift response and ensuring clear evacuation routes during emergencies. Annually, this period in the Philippines sees frequent heavy rains leading to floods and landslides, displacing numerous residents in various regions. In urban centers, inadequate drainage systems and blockages caused by illegal dumping exacerbate the damage. The BFP is calling on the public to stay vigilant with weather updates and to prepare evacuation plans in advance. The bureau also highlighted the importance of community cooperation in establishing support systems for vulnerable populations. This appeal underscores the Philippines' vulnerability to the impacts of climate change.
