Review underway for compensation for confiscated farmlands in Dagon New City

Union Minister for Home Affairs, Deputy Minister Major General Min Thu, stated that a review is being conducted to provide compensation for farmlands confiscated in Dagon New City District, Yangon Region, for use as the Dagon New City housing project. Major General Min Thu made these remarks in response to a star question posed by U Kyaw Kyaw Latt, National Assembly representative for Yangon Region Constituency No. 10, on the 16th day of the second regular session of the third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw held on July 13. U Kyaw Kyaw Latt had inquired about the possibility of receiving compensation for the remaining approximately 200 farmers concerning the confiscated farmlands in Dagon New City (North) Township. In response to the question, Deputy Minister Major General Min Thu stated that compensation has been provided at a rate of 100 million kyats per acre for land confiscated for the housing project, and that evidence is being reviewed to provide compensation to the remaining farmers. He added that farmlands in 24 village tracts within Dagon New City (South), Dagon New City (North), Dagon New City (East), and Dagon New City (Seikkan) townships, which are part of Dagon New City District, have already been developed as residential areas, industrial zones, and urban areas for the Dagon New City housing project. Major General Min Thu further stated that out of 598 cases submitted to the Committee for Reviewing Confiscated Farmlands and Other Lands for Compensation, compensation has been provided to 68 farmers and 64 cases that comply with policy and can present ownership documents, and that cases of the remaining farmers are also being reviewed for compensation payments.
