Cambodia Urges Shift to Higher-Value Manufacturing to Boost Supply Chain Competitiveness

PHNOM PENH, Aug 6, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is urging manufacturers to move into higher value‑added production as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its role in regional and global supply chains, officials said Thursday. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol made the call while presiding over the third Public‑Private Sector Breakfast Briefing, held under the theme “Strengthening the Supply Chain Foundation: Empowering Cambodia’s Industrial Transformation.” The event, hosted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia with support from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), brought together senior officials, diplomats and representatives from major international business chambers including AmCham, EuroCham, KOCHAM, JBAC and the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce. Chanthol reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing reforms to improve investment promotion and facilitation. He said the CDC would continue efforts to attract foreign direct investment, provide transparent support throughout the investment process and expand aftercare services to ensure long‑term success. He urged the private sector to work closely with the government in preparing for the next phase of industrial development by moving upstream into higher value‑added manufacturing and strengthening supply chain capabilities. “Regular, open and constructive dialogue between the public and private sectors will be essential to addressing business challenges, enhancing investor confidence and creating new success stories for Cambodia’s economy,” he said. The briefing featured presentations on supply chain research and discussions involving Chinese, American, European, Japanese and Korean business communities, underscoring broad international support for Cambodia’s industrial transformation agenda. The push for higher‑value manufacturing is central to Cambodia’s long‑term competitiveness, positioning the country to integrate more deeply into regional supply chains and attract investment in advanced industries.
