Bus Overturns in Gia Lai, Multiple Casualties - Health Ministry Directs Full Rescue Efforts

A serious traffic accident occurred on the morning of August 31 in Gia Lai province, central Vietnam, when a sleeper bus carrying 33 passengers overturned. According to a report by the local media "Nhan Dan," the accident took place on the eastern bypass road of the province. The bus, operated by "Việt Tân Phát," overturned while heading towards Đak Đoa near the Hàm Rồng intersection. According to a preliminary report from the Gia Lai Department of Health, one of the injured passengers was transferred to Chợ Rẫy Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City), and another to Gia Lai Provincial General Hospital for continued treatment. In response, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management under the Ministry of Health requested the Gia Lai Department of Health and Chợ Rẫy Hospital to promptly implement rescue and treatment plans. Specifically, it urged the maximum deployment of doctors, medicines, and medical equipment to expedite the treatment of severe cases, thereby minimizing the risk of death and damage. Furthermore, instructions were given to ensure professional medical cooperation, rapid transfer of patients to specialized hospitals when necessary, and to consider resource allocation coordination by the Ministry of Health. At the accident scene, the overturned bus sustained significant damage, with broken windows and scattered passenger belongings, presenting a chaotic sight. Initial investigations by authorities confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs and possessed a valid driving license. The vehicle's regular inspection was also within its validity period. In Vietnam, while infrastructure development is progressing, traffic accidents remain a serious social issue. Accidents involving long-distance buses are particularly life-threatening, necessitating continuous strengthening of safety measures.
