Bandung City Leadership Faces Rift as Deputy Mayor Claims Lack of Involvement
Bandung Deputy Mayor Erwin has revealed he has never been involved in city governance by Mayor Muhammad Farhan, sparking speculation of a rift. Erwin stated this after his pretrial motion regarding the termination of his corruption investigation was rejected, lamenting his lack of participation in key decisions.
A rift is reportedly brewing within the leadership of the Bandung City government. Deputy Mayor of Bandung, Erwin, has made a surprising admission that he has never been involved in the city's governance by Mayor Muhammad Farhan. This statement came after Erwin's pretrial motion regarding the termination of his corruption investigation (SP3) was rejected by the court. When questioned about his involvement in handling potential drought issues in Bandung, Erwin revealed the internal dynamics of his working relationship with the mayor. "To be frank, I have never been invited by the mayor all this time. From budget shifts, budget changes, regional budgets (APBD), Bandung City's work programs, to rotations and mutations, I have never been invited. The last time I was invited to a leadership meeting was just yesterday, and even then I didn't say anything," Erwin was quoted as saying by detikJabar at Bandung City Hall on Monday (6/7). Despite this, Erwin expressed hope that the working relationship would normalize after his legal issues are resolved. He affirmed his readiness to resume his duties as the second-highest official in the "Flower City." "So, hopefully, with this resolved, I can synergize again with the Mayor of Bandung, and we can share tasks, but it depends on the Mayor, perhaps," Erwin stated. "I am ready for anything, and I still have the function of evaluation and supervision. So, I don't know about Bandung City's programs, frankly, because I've never been invited. My work is according to my job description," he added. Responding to his partner's candid remarks, Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that he would communicate and speak directly with Erwin to clarify the matter. "I will talk to Mr. Erwin later. Yes, I will communicate with Mr. Erwin later," Farhan told reporters at Bandung City Hall on Tuesday (7/7). Farhan also sought to clarify the perception that Erwin was entirely isolated from the city's administration. According to him, Erwin still carries out his official duties and attends several official events of the Bandung City government. "Regarding meetings, based on reports, Mr. Erwin still meets with departments to resolve issues when they arise. He is also invited to events, still attending," Farhan revealed. Concerning the division of tasks, Farhan explained that it proceeds in accordance with the regulations applicable within local governments. He noted that the current workload is not as heavy as before because the system is already operating independently. "Regarding the division of tasks, basically, it's like this. Based on the Ministry of Home Affairs regulation, the duties of a regional deputy head are given by the regional head. So far, the tasks assigned are indeed not as many as before, because some are already running on their own," Farhan elaborated. He added that his primary focus currently in Bandung is on fulfilling political promises, with waste management being a key area awaiting the realization of work programs. Despite the temporary tension caused by these public statements, Mayor Muhammad Farhan and Deputy Mayor Erwin reportedly held a direct meeting. This meeting and their joint appearance are seen as an effort to defuse the public perception of a leadership rift and ensure the smooth functioning of the Bandung City government.
