BRI Cares Empowers Returning Migrant Workers with Entrepreneurship Training in Cirebon
PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) has launched an entrepreneurship empowerment program for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) returning home after completing their overseas contracts. Sixty former PMI from Cirebon Regency, West Java, received training in business planning and financial management, aiming to foster economic independence and regional growth.
PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) has conducted an entrepreneurship empowerment program under its BRI Peduli Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, targeting Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who have completed their contracts abroad and returned home. This particular "Purna PMI Empowerment Program" focused on 60 former PMI from Cirebon Regency, West Java Province. The participants received various types of training at the Cirebon Regency Manpower Office, including basic entrepreneurship, identification of business potential and local market opportunities, business plan preparation, business management (production, marketing, and finance), strengthening of entrepreneurship mentality and motivation, and post-training business assistance. BRI Corporate Secretary Dhanny explained that the program is designed to equip returning PMI with the necessary skills and knowledge to build economic resilience, both through business development and by increasing employment opportunities within the country. The program aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of post-migrant entrepreneurs in developing businesses, as well as equipping them with the ability to plan and manage sustainable businesses. Through this program, participants are encouraged to start or develop productive businesses aligned with the potential and opportunities in their respective regions. In addition, participants will also receive intensive business assistance to support more optimal, competitive, and sustainable business growth. "With the support of experienced mentors, they are expected to improve welfare, as well as actively contribute to encouraging community economic development," explained Dhanny. For information, based on data on the placement of migrant workers in December 2025 from the Data and Information Center of the Indonesian Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection, West Java Province is the largest origin of migrant workers in Indonesia with a proportion of around 21.93% of the total national and shows an increasing trend. At the district/city level, Cirebon Regency is included in the top five PMI origin areas or contributes 4.02%, with an increase in the number from 767 to 886 people or an increase of 15.51% in 2025. "This shows that Cirebon Regency is one of the priority areas in the effort to empower returnees, which is expected to increase capacity and economic resilience, encourage the growth and development of productive businesses that they manage, and open up opportunities for sustainable livelihoods in the country," added Dhanny. On the other hand, Tanipa, one of the former PMI from Bungko Lor Village, Kapetakan District, Cirebon Regency, revealed that the empowerment activities organized by BRI provided great benefits for him. Previously, Tanipa worked in Hong Kong, Bahrain, and Singapore. The empowerment program for Tanipa PMI graduates not only equips participants with material on business validation, but also provides an understanding of financial literacy, including how to manage business finances and business development strategies. "The material provided is very relevant to the needs of PMI graduates in developing their businesses.
