Quang Tri Province to Hold Workshop to Verify Collective Cemetery Information in Con Tien Commune

The central Vietnamese province of Quang Tri has been instructed to organize a workshop to verify and conclude information regarding collective graves located in Con Tien commune. This directive comes from the National Steering Committee for Searching, Gathering, and Identifying the Remains of Martyrs. Mr. Lê Đức Tiến, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, made a statement on August 8 regarding this matter. The province is expected to expedite the organization of a specialized conference involving experts to ensure the accuracy of the collective grave information and to reach an official conclusion. Quang Tri Province was one of the most heavily contested areas during the Vietnam War, and many martyrs' remains are still undiscovered. In recent years, the province has continuously conducted activities to find and collect the remains of fallen soldiers, as well as to identify unidentified remains. This workshop is part of these efforts, aiming to deepen the verification of collective grave information within the local community from academic and expert perspectives. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the state places significant importance on initiatives such as commemorating war casualties and collecting remains to foster national unity and social order. These activities are considered crucial for cultivating patriotism and respect for sacrifices among the people, as well as for shaping the nation's historical narrative. The verification of collective grave information in Quang Tri is being carried out within this national context.
