Cambodia, Malaysia to Hold High-Level Talks to Expand Bilateral Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, July 31, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn will travel to Malaysia next week for high‑level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, the foreign ministry said Friday. Prak Sokhonn will visit Kuala Lumpur from August 3 to 4 at the invitation of Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan. During the trip, the two ministers will co‑chair the third meeting of the Cambodia–Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), the main mechanism overseeing relations between the two countries. The session will review progress since the previous JCBC meeting and assess the implementation of existing agreements, according to the ministry. Officials are expected to discuss new measures to expand cooperation across trade, investment, tourism, education and defence, as both sides seek to deepen economic and diplomatic ties. Prak Sokhonn is also scheduled to meet Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the visit. The Cambodian foreign ministry said the talks underscore both countries’ commitment to strengthening their longstanding partnership and advancing cooperation in support of regional peace, economic growth and sustainable development. Established in 1994, the JCBC has served as the key platform for bilateral dialogue. The upcoming meeting is expected to highlight shared priorities, including boosting connectivity, enhancing people‑to‑people exchanges and coordinating positions within ASEAN.
