Cambodia Streamlines ID Card Issuance for Internal Migrants, Enhancing Efficiency and Citizen Services

Phnom Penh police are actively working to expedite the issuance of identification cards (ID cards) for all citizens, including internal migrants, in the capital. This initiative, guided by the Ministry of Interior and the Commissioner of Phnom Penh Municipal Police, aims to enhance citizen services and convenience. Lieutenant Colonel Sophat Sethavaty, head of the Immigration and Nationality Office of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, stated that significant attention is being paid to the process of issuing Cambodian nationality ID cards to internal migrants and the general public residing in Phnom Penh. She highlighted that this new mechanism provides greater convenience and transparency, streamlining the process for citizens. Citizens aged 15 and above are eligible for ID card issuance and renewal. For new applications, supporting documents such as birth certificates and residence books are required. However, for renewal of expired cards, only the old ID card needs to be presented. Lt. Col. Sophat Sethavaty also mentioned that ID cards have a validity of 180 days, after which citizens can apply for a new one. Sok Siny, a citizen who availed the service, expressed satisfaction with the new ID card issuance system, praising the efficiency and friendly service provided by the officials. This initiative is seen as a crucial step in demonstrating the government's commitment to providing accessible and efficient services to its citizens. Cambodian citizens, both male and female, residing in Phnom Penh can apply for their first Cambodian nationality ID card, or for renewals, replacements due to loss or damage, at the Immigration and Nationality Office of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, located at AEON Mall 2, AEON Mall 3, and the Department of Immigration and Nationality.
