Vietnam Approves Roadmap for "Make in Vietnam" Civil Cryptography Ecosystem

Vietnam has approved a roadmap to build a "Make in Vietnam" civil cryptography ecosystem, a strategic move aimed at strengthening the foundation of its rapidly developing digital economy and ensuring national information sovereignty and cybersecurity. This decision aligns with the Communist Party of Vietnam's Resolution No. 57, which identifies science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as breakthrough drivers of national development. Notably, cybersecurity and quantum technologies have been added to the country's list of 10 strategic technology groups, underscoring their increasing importance. Vietnam's e-commerce sector has seen robust annual growth of around 20-25%, establishing it as one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic markets. To sustain this growth, improvements in legal frameworks, enhanced consumer trust, and a fair competitive environment are crucial. The development of a domestic cryptography ecosystem is seen as a key component of this effort. The country is home to approximately 4,000 start-ups and technology enterprises, supported by over 30,000 highly skilled professionals. The government prioritizes investment in research and development, focusing on mastering, improving, and applying innovative core technologies. This reflects Vietnam's long-term goal of cultivating a generation capable of not just using technology, but also innovating and creating it. Furthermore, Vietnam advocates for enhanced regional cooperation in emerging strategic technology fields such as AI, big data, space technology, and cybersecurity, aiming to foster a secure digital business environment and boost ASEAN's overall competitiveness. This initiative is expected to help Vietnam transition to higher-value segments within global supply chains.
