Tulfo criticized the scholars for presenting Batanes as a "natural geographical extension" of Taiwan, an island that Beijing also claims. He questioned the escalating territorial assertions, asking, "Before, they claim that the West Philippine Sea is theirs, now Batanes is also their territory? What’s next? Palawan? Zambales Cagayan?" In light of these developments, the senator renewed his strong call for the swift passage of Senate Bill 1625, known as the "West Philippine Sea Education Act." He considers this bill one of the proactive measures to counter disinformation surrounding the country’s territory. "We have to act fast in ensuring that Filipinos are not easily swayed by these kinds of claims. As early as Basic Education, Filipinos must be equipped with knowledge about the Philippine sovereignty," Tulfo stated. If enacted into law, the bill will mandate age-appropriate instructions anchored on internationally recognized facts, Supreme Court decisions, and Philippine laws to be integrated into learning materials. The Department of Education will also be required to conduct appropriate training for teachers and educators on WPS Education. Tulfo emphasized that knowledge of one's territory is not only a matter of patriotism but also a practical way for citizens to understand what rightfully belongs to them, not just on paper but also in terms of resources.
