Apple Raises iCloud+ Prices in Vietnam by 20-31%
Apple has increased iCloud+ prices by 20-31% in Vietnam and seven other markets starting July 18, with currency fluctuations cited as a potential factor. While Apple Music prices rose in the US, they remained unchanged in Vietnam.
Apple has increased the prices for its iCloud+ cloud storage service in Vietnam by 20-31%, depending on the storage capacity, effective July 18. The highest tier will now cost VND 1.8 million per month, while the lowest will be VND 25,000 per month. Vietnam is among eight markets where Apple is raising prices for its online storage services, alongside Nigeria, Turkey, Japan, Egypt, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. This marks the first price adjustment for iCloud+ in Vietnam since Apple increased fees for the 200GB and 2TB plans in June 2023. While prices in these other countries have risen by 11-55%, Vietnam is experiencing an increase of approximately 20-31%. The 50GB plan, the lowest capacity, saw the highest percentage increase at 31.68%, rising from VND 19,000 to VND 25,000. The three higher-capacity plans (6TB and 12TB) have each increased by about 20%, reaching VND 899,000 and VND 1,799,000 respectively. According to several international tech publications, this adjustment may be attributed to currency fluctuations. For instance, the Japanese Yen has weakened by 10% against the US Dollar, and the Turkish Lira has also experienced significant depreciation recently. On the same day, Apple also raised the price of its Apple Music streaming service in some countries, including the US, but Vietnam was not included. The individual plan in the US increased from $10.99 to $11.99 per month. In response to Forbes, Apple stated that this increase is due to rising music licensing costs and is unrelated to currency exchange rates. In Vietnam, Apple Music prices remain at VND 65,000/month for individuals, VND 99,000/month for family plans, and VND 35,000 for students. Additionally, Apple One (which bundles Music, iCloud+, TV+, and Arcade) is still priced at VND 239,000/month for individuals and VND 279,000/month for families. Amidst changes in the Yen's exchange rate with the USD, Japan was the first market to adjust the pricing of new iPhones. According to iPhoneros, models such as the iPhone 16, 17e, 17, Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max have all seen price increases of 8-11% on Apple's online store in Japan. Mid-last month, Apple announced a global price increase of 15-25% for its iPad and Mac product lines. This was attributed to the memory chip crisis and Apple's inability to manage supply to maintain previous pricing. Apple was the latest computer company to make such a move, following numerous major players like Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, which had already adjusted their PC and laptop prices since late last year.
