Cambodia Joins Second Mekong-Lancang Peace Boat Initiative for Regional Cooperation

Cambodia has joined the launch of the second Mekong-Lancang Peace Boat initiative, aimed at promoting regional cooperation, dialogue, and cultural exchanges among countries along the Mekong-Lancang region, officials said Thursday. Kan Pharidh, Secretary of State at the foreign ministry and chair of Cambodia’s Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Secretariat, attended the launch ceremony on Aug 5 and delivered congratulatory remarks. The event, organised by the Asian Vision Institute, was presided over by Suos Yara, chairman of the National Assembly’s foreign affairs commission, alongside Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin. It brought together ambassadors, representatives from Mekong-Lancang countries and about 70 participants. Held under the theme “Mekong for People, Peace, and Prosperity,” the initiative is supported by the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund 2025. It seeks to encourage greater understanding among communities in the sub-region, particularly young people and scholars. The seven-day training programme and study visit along the Mekong River will allow participants to exchange ideas, share experiences and build closer ties. Organisers said the programme reflects a shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, connectivity and sustainable development. Exchanges among young people would help strengthen friendship and cooperation, contributing to a more connected and peaceful Mekong-Lancang community.
