Northern Vietnam on High Alert for Floods and Landslides Amid Heavy Rains

Northern and North Central Vietnam are facing significantly elevated risks of floods and landslides due to continuous heavy rainfall. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of August 4th into the morning, areas in the Northwest, Tuyen Quang province, and parts of Thanh Hoa province experienced moderate rain, scattered thunderstorms, and in some localized spots, very heavy downpours. Weather forecasts for August 4th indicate rain in many parts of the country, with the possibility of very heavy rain in localized areas. This is part of an ongoing trend of widespread rainfall that began in late July. Even though some days in the northern region saw sunny spells during the day, rain and thunderstorms were frequent in the afternoons and evenings. These weather conditions highlight the natural disaster risks Vietnam faces. Mountainous regions and areas along rivers are particularly vulnerable, as saturated soil from rainfall can easily trigger landslides, and rapid water level rises can exacerbate flood damage. The Vietnamese government is urging the public to closely monitor the latest weather information and implement safety measures.
