Two Laoag cops sacked for counterflowing

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — Two police officers in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, are facing administrative action after being caught counterflowing, an act recorded on video by a passing motorist and condemned by the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO). Police Col. Joemar Labiano, INPPO director, said in a statement that counterflowing by police officers would not be tolerated. He expressed dismay over the officers' actions, emphasizing that law enforcers are expected to be exemplars of the law. The video of the incident, which went viral on social media, drew widespread criticism, prompting the INPPO to launch an investigation. "We do not tolerate any form of misconduct from our personnel, especially those that endanger the public and undermine the integrity of the Philippine National Police," Labiano said. He added that the erring officers would be subjected to due process, but assured the public that justice would be served. The incident has once again brought to the fore the issue of traffic discipline and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws in the country.
