Vietnam Seeks Increased Australian ODA for Climate and Infrastructure

Vietnam is seeking an increase in Official Development Assistance (ODA) from Australia, particularly for climate change response and infrastructure development. This aligns with Vietnam's new development orientations, as outlined during the third meeting of the 14th Party Central Committee, which prioritize science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, private sector development, and high-quality human resources. Vietnam aims to achieve its sustainable development goals and accelerate economic growth through enhanced collaboration with Australia in these key sectors. Vietnam views climate change as an urgent challenge, requiring significant investment in promoting renewable energy and strengthening infrastructure resilience. Australian ODA is expected to play a crucial role in supporting these initiatives. Furthermore, both countries have agreed to deepen cooperation at the local level and maintain preferential visa fees for Vietnamese citizens, indicating a comprehensive approach to strengthening bilateral ties.
