Phu Quoc Boat Capsize: Travel Firm Employee Charged

Phan Vo Kieu Truc Linh, a 33-year-old employee of Minh Huy PQ Tourism Co., Ltd., has been charged by the An Giang Provincial Police with assigning an unqualified individual to operate a watercraft. The charge stems from a boat capsizing incident on July 11 that resulted in the deaths of 15 Indian tourists off Phu Quoc island. Linh is accused of assigning Nguyen Hong Hai, 57, to pilot the canoe AG-26751 despite Mr. Hai lacking the necessary qualifications. The vessel later overturned in the waters off Hon May Rut Ngoai island, in the An Thoi archipelago of Phu Quoc. The accident caused 36 people to fall into the sea; 21 were rescued, while 15 fatalities were recorded. Earlier, Mr. Hai was arrested and is under investigation for violating regulations related to the operation of watercraft.
