Chinese forestry researchers concluded a five-day visit to mangrove forests in three Cambodian coastal provinces, engaging in exchanges on conservation and restoration technologies. The mission, under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) framework, aims to enhance Cambodian mangrove ecosystems and improve local livelihoods.

Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Forestry have completed a five-day visit to mangrove forests in three Cambodian coastal provinces: Kep, Kampot, and Preah Sihanouk. Hosted by the Cambodia Agricultural Science Academy (CASA), the mission involved five scientists from the Guangzhou-based Research Institute of Tropical Forestry. This visit was part of technical exchanges and capacity building for mangrove conservation and restoration under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) framework. Dr. Heng Kong, Director of the Fisheries-Aquaculture Research and Development Institute (FARDI), stated, "This was the first visit by Chinese experts with more than 40 years’ experience in mangrove forest restoration technology." He added, "We hope their technology helps to improve Cambodian mangrove forests while increasing biodiversity and improving community livelihoods." The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries established FARDI in April by merging three fisheries research institutes and three aquaculture research centers. This initiative coincided with the establishment of CASA, which consolidated research across agriculture, forestry, livestock, and fisheries. (Photo: CASA) By Sao Da Source: AKP Cambodia
