Siem Reap Province Holds Consultation Meeting for Cambodia Strategy Framework 2024-2030 Implementation
Siem Reap Province convened a consultation meeting to develop an action plan for implementing the Cambodia Strategy Framework 2024-2030 and the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). With a provincial population exceeding 1 million and over 62% in the working-age demographic, concrete measures were discussed for economic development and achieving the 'Zero 3' goals.
Siem Reap Province held a consultation meeting on September 14, 2026, to prepare for the implementation of the Cambodia Strategy Framework 2024-2030. This meeting focused on developing an action plan for the implementation of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) program. The meeting was attended by Her Excellency Sin Nom, a member of the Siem Reap Provincial Council, and Madam Srey Sokun, Acting Director of the Provincial Planning Department, along with representatives from various provincial departments, agencies, and relevant stakeholders. Her Excellency Sin Nom stated that the meeting is crucial to ensure that the provincial action plan is in smooth alignment with the national strategy framework and the government's first phase of the 'Pentagonal Strategy.' She emphasized that this process will help the committee clearly identify priority tasks and allocate budgets, human resources, and time efficiently and transparently, with the participation and ownership of all relevant parties. She further explained that the strategy framework is an important tool for reviewing, monitoring, and evaluating the progress of implementing the population and development action programs towards 2030, focusing on the 'Zero 3' goals: ending unmet needs for family planning; ending preventable maternal deaths; and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices. These objectives aim to protect lives, reduce poverty, empower women, enhance family and social stability, and promote human rights, dignity, and an equitable and peaceful society. Her Excellency Sin Nom requested that municipal and district authorities, as well as relevant departments and agencies, cooperate by providing factual data. She urged them to present real challenges rather than outdated information and to outline clear actions that respond to the 'Zero 3' goals. All parties are required to submit their inputs and consolidated reports to the technical working group within the set deadlines to avoid hindering the overall implementation process. Madam Srey Sokun provided demographic data for Siem Reap Province, stating that the total population is over 1 million, residing in 279,204 households, with a population density of 119 people per square kilometer. Of this population, 761,496 people (62.05%) are in the working-age group, which is larger than the dependent population. This presents a golden opportunity to leverage the demographic dividend for the province's economic development. The primary occupations of the provincial population are agriculture (66.4%), services (32.3%), and handicrafts (1.3%).
