Mondulkiri Prison Holds 737 Inmates, 56.7% Linked to Drug Offenses

The Prosecutor's Office of Mondulkiri Provincial Court announced that the provincial prison currently holds a total of 737 inmates, with 418 individuals, or 56.7%, being implicated in drug-related offenses. This figure was revealed during a ceremony commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, held under the theme "Jointly Responding to Drug Issues in the New Context with Creativity" at the Mondulkiri Provincial Hall on September 14, 2026. Mr. Mam Vanda, Prosecutor of the Mondulkiri Provincial Court, stated that during the event, authorities incinerated a quantity of seized drugs and evidence. The destroyed drugs totaled 413.22 grams, comprising 398.44 grams of methamphetamine powder and 14.78 grams of pills. Additionally, electronic cigarette components were also disposed of, including 55 boxes (equivalent to 88 units) of electronic cigarette heads and 113 electronic cigarette machines. Mr. Vanda specified that these destroyed exhibits are related to a total of 76 drug crime cases, divided into three stages: 65 cases at the trial stage, 4 cases at the pre-trial stage, and 7 cases at the investigation stage. According to the prosecutor, from 2025 to May 2026, the Provincial Court Prosecutor's Office received a total of 76 drug-related criminal cases, with 65 cases in the trial stage, 4 in the pre-trial stage, and 7 in the investigation stage. Concurrently, Mr. Leng Bunna, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, stated that drug offenses continue to rank among the top criminal activities leading to legal repercussions and imprisonment for offenders. He affirmed that authorities and law enforcement across the province are persistently working to suppress and prevent these crimes. Mr. Bunna reiterated his reminder and recommendation to all stakeholders and citizens to continue joining forces in combating drugs under the vision of "A Clean Cambodian Society Free from Drugs." He also encouraged citizens to report any drug-related offenses through the "NoDrug" App and 24-hour hotlines to contribute to the creation of "Drug-Free Villages, Communes, and Districts."
