Vietnam's Hoang Sa Viet Elevator Opens Lab to Boost Domestic R&D

Hoang Sa Viet Elevator, a Vietnamese manufacturer and supplier of home elevators, has inaugurated a dedicated research and development laboratory aimed at enhancing domestic technological capabilities and increasing the localization rate of components. The facility, named "Phòng Lab Thang máy Gia đình" (Home Elevator Lab), was opened on July 17th with the objective of evaluating materials, verifying components, and ultimately achieving self-sufficiency in elevator technology and production. The lab is designed to operate on an open model, facilitating collaboration with universities, experts, and technology partners for applied research, technical testing, and technology transfer. Engineers at Hoang Sa Viet Elevator can work alongside faculty and students to assess materials, test components, simulate control systems, and conduct pre-production technology trials. Pham Van Hung, Chairman of Hoang Sa Viet Elevator, stated that the lab is envisioned as a hub connecting research, production, and training, offering engineers opportunities for new product development and students practical exposure to equipment and technology during their studies. The rapid growth of the home elevator segment in Vietnam's major urban centers necessitates solutions tailored to local architectural conditions. Investing in domestic R&D is expected to shorten product development cycles. The lab is anticipated to bridge the gap between academic training and actual industry demands by providing students direct access to modern equipment, technology, and manufacturing processes. Following the inauguration, Hoang Sa Viet Elevator signed a technology transfer agreement with Amneo Drive Technology (Kinetec Elevator) for the production of pitless mini elevators. This product line is optimized for space-saving and is particularly suitable for building renovations, addressing a growing demand in Vietnam's dense urban housing and retrofitting market. Hoang Sa Viet Elevator views its partnership with Kinetec as a foundational step in a long-term strategy to master technology and increase value creation within Vietnam. The company aims to achieve approximately 70% localization for future product lines, aspiring to independently conduct research, design, manufacturing, and quality control to international standards. Kinetec Amneo Drive Technology, based in Kunshan High-tech Zone, Suzhou, China, operates a highly automated 20,000 sq m factory specializing in the research and production of traction machines, inverters, and intelligent control systems, adhering to various international standards. Furthermore, Hoang Sa Viet Elevator has entered into a training cooperation agreement with the Department of Automation Technology at Thu Duc College of Technology. This collaboration will provide students with internship opportunities in production, installation, maintenance, and technology research, with the company also donating two elevator models worth approximately one billion Vietnamese dong to the college's lab. Graduates will have opportunities for employment at the company's factories and maintenance centers nationwide. Alongside these agreements, a seminar titled "Competitiveness of Vietnamese Enterprises in Automation and Elevator Sector" discussed trends in AI, IoT, and smart manufacturing, along with the requirements for brand building, innovation, and high-quality human resource development. Industry experts highlighted that while the Vietnamese elevator market holds significant potential due to urbanization and renovation needs, companies must move beyond assembly and trading. Enhancing competitiveness requires mastering technology, investing in R&D, and building strong brands. Hoang Sa Viet Elevator expresses its ambition for Vietnamese elevators to be recognized not just as assembled products, but as innovations researched, designed, and manufactured by Vietnamese engineering teams, capable of competing in regional and international markets.
