One ZRA cadre killed, two injured in ZNA attack in Ton Zang

In Ton Zang Township, northern Chin State, one cadre from the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) was killed and two were injured in an attack by the Zomi National Army (ZNA), according to reports. The ZNA reportedly launched an attack with approximately 40 personnel on a ZRA guard post located in the village of Zampi, Ton Zang Township, at around 2:40 AM on September 10. "It was early in the morning, so none of the villagers had woken up yet. The shooting started around 3 AM. There was an exchange of heavy and small arms fire," a local resident of Ton Zang told the Irrawaddy Times. According to a statement released by the ZRA on September 10, the exchange of fire resulted in one ZRA cadre killed and two injured, with casualties also reported on the ZNA side. The ZNA stated that the attack was a retaliatory action following the ZRA's raid on a ZNA base in the village of Twi Kyin Lwee, Tedim Township, on August 23, during which weapons and ammunition were seized and food supplies were destroyed. Local residents have expressed concerns for their safety due to the frequent clashes occurring within villages inhabited by civilians. "We don't want any more fighting. When fighting happens, local residents worry about their safety. It's also difficult to travel within the village and its surroundings," a local resident of Ton Zang told the Irrawaddy Times. The ZRA is an organization cooperating with the National Unity Government (NUG), while the ZNA is a splinter group formed by individuals who were dissatisfied with the actions of some ZRA leaders.
