Drought Devastates Rice Crops in Cambodia's Pursat Province, Government Assesses Aid

Severe drought in Bakan District, Pursat Province, western Cambodia, has caused significant damage to farmers' rice cultivation. On July 27, Deputy Prime Minister Kun Kim, First Vice-President of the National Committee for Disaster Management, inspected the affected areas in Chamkar Loeu village, Boeung Khnar commune, to assess the damage to crops. During the inspection, Deputy Prime Minister Kun Kim instructed the provincial administration and relevant departments to collect accurate data on the extent of the impact and crop damage. He specifically called for intervention measures and decisions on relief for farmers in rice-growing areas in other regions that may be affected by water shortages. According to on-site inspections, Bakan District has been the most severely affected by the drought compared to other districts and towns within Pursat Province. This drought poses concerns for food security and the rural economy, impacting Cambodia's primary crop, rice.
