NBI Seeks Lookout Bulletin vs Leviste, 6 Others in Alleged Honey Trap Plot

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is seeking an immigration lookout bulletin order against Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste and six others linked to an alleged honey trap plot targeting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto. NBI Director Melvin Matibag stated that photos showed Leviste entering an Uber in France on August 6, after which he reportedly traveled to Switzerland. The latest information indicates he is currently in France. Matibag intends to request the Department of Justice to issue an immigration alert to prevent Leviste and the other involved individuals from evading legal proceedings. The NBI had filed qualified human trafficking charges on September 4 against Leviste and others implicated in the alleged scheme to frame Recto. Leviste and his mother, Senator Loren Legarda, departed the country on August 2. Matibag mentioned that once arrest warrants are issued, authorities can coordinate with Philippine embassies and the International Police Organization (Interpol). However, he acknowledged that arresting the respondents could be challenging if they apply for asylum abroad. "I hope he comes home to face the case," Matibag urged.
