10,000 Martial Artists Threaten to Surround Debt Collector HQ and Surabaya Police Station

Approximately 10,000 martial artists are planning a large-scale demonstration in Surabaya, East Java, in response to an assault incident involving debt collectors (DCs). The protest stems from the alleged assault and stabbing of two martial artists, who work as parking attendants at an entertainment venue in the Tegalsari area of Surabaya. The victims, identified as Feri (25) and Didik (28), were reportedly attacked by DCs. According to a circulating notice, the demonstration is scheduled for Friday (31/7) around 1:00 PM local time. The planned gathering sites are the headquarters of debt collector group Maluku 1 Rasa (M1R) on Jalan Teuku Umar in Tegalsari, and the Surabaya Police Station (Mapolresta Surabaya). Kompol Awaludin Wijaya, Head of Intelligence at the Surabaya Police, confirmed that the notification for the protest, estimating around 10,000 participants, has been received. He stated that the police are coordinating with relevant parties and are prepared to mediate or facilitate a hearing if necessary. Wijaya emphasized that public expression is a right protected by law. However, he urged all participants to commit to maintaining a peaceful situation should the demonstration proceed. The police's primary approach is to resolve the issue through mediation or dialogue first. "Surabaya is our shared home. It is where we live, work, and earn our living.
