Laos Joins ASEAN Border Monitoring Mission Between Cambodia and Thailand

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia announced that on July 23, 2026, at 1:00 PM, military officers from the International Relations Department of the Ministry of National Defense and the Coordination Group (CLG) of the Kingdom of Cambodia warmly welcomed the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Laos has dispatched two rotating military officers, Colonel KhamPhet Fonglamay and Colonel Singsavan Vongsouvanh, to join the ASEAN Observation Team (AOT) stationed in the Kingdom of Cambodia, led by the Philippines as the ASEAN rotating chair, to observe and verify the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border following the official ceasefire. The source stated that Cambodia always provides full support and strengthens the role of the ASEAN Observation Team (AOT) in ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, promoting transparency, mutual trust, and protecting the lives of citizens. Simultaneously, Cambodia always welcomes friendly countries to send observers or participate in peace efforts. The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia continue to maintain their firm, sincere, and highly responsible commitment to fully and meticulously respect and implement the joint declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the joint statement on the peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, and other related agreements, in order to achieve rapid improvement and a return to normalcy, peace, stability, and long-term order.
