Bandung Police Investigate Criminal Elements in Illegal Tree Felling

In Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, police are investigating potential criminal elements in the illegal felling of 10 street trees, allegedly for the construction of a padel tennis court. AKBP Anton, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Bandung City Police, stated that they are collaborating with the city government to uncover the full details of the incident and pursue legal accountability. According to Anton, no official report from the alleged victim, the Bandung City Government, or the tree owners has been received yet. However, discussions with the city authorities will guide future actions. Anton emphasized that unauthorized tree felling is a violation of the law and could be considered property damage. The incident involved the felling of 10 trees planted on the sidewalk along LLRE. Martadinata Street, in front of a facility known as "Six Nine Padel." The stumps were covered with cement and further concealed with smaller plants, suggesting an attempt to hide the evidence. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan expressed his outrage over the incident, stating that the identities of those involved in the illegal felling have been identified and that legal action will be taken. Bandung has been experiencing rapid urban development, with green space preservation becoming a significant challenge.
