Two separate motorcycle robbery incidents occurred in Banteay Meanchey province on the night of July 18th, one in Poipet city and another in Serei Saophoan city. These events have heightened public concern over deteriorating security in the region. The first incident took place around 10 PM in Poipet city's Nimit commune. A high school student was attacked by two young men on a motorcycle near their home. The assailants used a helmet to strike the victim, causing them to fall off their motorcycle before stealing it and fleeing eastward towards Serei Saophoan. Despite attempts by the victim's family and neighbors to pursue the perpetrators, they escaped. The victim sustained minor injuries. The stolen motorcycle was a black Honda Dream with license plate Banteay Meanchey 1AB7147. The second incident occurred around 9 PM in Serei Saophoan city's Kampong Svay commune. A group of four individuals on two motorcycles reportedly chased and attacked a lone rider with knives. The victim managed to escape but sustained cuts on their back. Nearby residents intervened to assist the victim. According to the Chief of Serei Saophoan City Police, no injuries were reported in the second incident, and the motorcycle was not stolen. Police are currently investigating to identify and apprehend the suspects. In recent months, Banteay Meanchey province, particularly Poipet and Serei Saophoan, has seen a rise in motorcycle robberies targeting moving vehicles. While police have been making arrests, residents and social media users have expressed significant worry about public safety during nighttime travel, calling for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
