Cambodia's CMAC and IMCCD Sign Partnership Agreement for Mine Clearance Project

The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and IMCCD, an international non-governmental organization, signed a partnership agreement on August 4, 2026, at CMAC headquarters in Phnom Penh, concerning the 'Community Mine Clearance' project. This project will be implemented for one year, from August 16, 2026, to August 15, 2027. Mr. Heng Ratana, Director General of CMAC, and Mr. Takayama Ryoji, President of IMCCD, attended the signing ceremony. The project aims to clear anti-personnel landmines within Cambodia, focusing specifically on community-level activities. Cambodia has suffered from landmine contamination for many years. Even after the end of the civil war, landmines buried across vast areas of the country continue to be a significant obstacle to people's lives and economic activities. Under the leadership of the Cambodian government and with support from the international community, CMAC has been continuously engaged in mine clearance operations. Collaboration with international organizations like IMCCD is expected to bring cooperation in expertise, technology, and funding, contributing to the efficiency and acceleration of mine clearance. This agreement marks an important step for Cambodia in its goal of becoming a landmine-free and safe nation.
