Lien Khuong Airport Reopening to Fuel Lam Dong Tourism

Lien Khuong Airport in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong is poised to resume its operations with plans for 91 weekly return flights, a move expected to significantly boost tourism and economic activity in the region. The airport's restoration, backed by an investment exceeding VND1 trillion (approximately USD38 million) by Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), includes comprehensive repairs to the runway, taxiways, safety strips, and essential technical infrastructure and equipment. This upgrade aims to meet growing travel demand and enhance air connectivity between Da Lat city and major economic and tourism hubs across the country. During the closure for renovation, Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier, adjusted its flight schedules to ensure passenger travel needs were met while maintaining regional air connectivity. The planned resumption by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air is anticipated to cater to the increasing influx of both residents and visitors. The reopening of Lien Khuong Airport is seen as a crucial step in revitalizing Lam Dong's tourism sector and fostering broader economic development. This aligns with Vietnam's overall economic momentum, which saw a robust GDP growth of 8.18% in the first half of the year, driven by strong export performance. Key sectors like textiles, garments, footwear, and agricultural products have benefited from expanded market access through free trade agreements such as the CPTPP, connecting Vietnam to markets in North America, the EU, and the Asia-Pacific. Furthermore, Vietnam is actively developing new growth engines, including strengthening its semiconductor ecosystem through collaborations with entities like the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association. The government is implementing a comprehensive strategy to bolster export growth, streamline administrative procedures, reduce logistics costs, improve access to credit, and assist businesses in overcoming trade barriers. These efforts aim to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese products and diversify markets. The functional restoration of Lien Khuong Airport is expected to facilitate greater domestic and international tourist flow, contributing to the sustained development of the regional economy and reinforcing Vietnam's position in global supply chains.
