Two separate incidents in the Philippines have revealed students possessing firearms within school premises. On July 29, municipal police conducting a routine school visit at Pulang Bato Elementary School in Biliran, Leyte, confiscated a revolver from a pupil. The school principal surrendered a caliber .38 revolver without ammunition that had been found in the student's possession. In a related event, a student was taken into police custody after allegedly sneaking a firearm onto a school campus in Isabela City, Basilan on Wednesday. Police investigators disclosed that the registered owner of the firearm reported that the gun had been stolen after he left his vehicle at a car wash station. Meanwhile, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers yesterday expressed alarm over the disturbing rise of violence that endangers students and educators, following the death of a teacher in New Washington, Aklan, after a 19-year-old suspect allegedly punched the victim multiple times.
