Cambodia Promotes Green Eco-Resort Development at Teuk Pous Hot Springs

The Ministry of Environment is promoting a green eco-resort development project at the "Teuk Pous" hot springs located within the Ko Doung Tei Natural Protected Area in O'Russei District, Kampong Speu Province. This initiative aims to enhance the livelihoods of local communities by attracting tourists for relaxation and strengthening the sustainable management of the natural protected area. On August 7, 2026, Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, met with community members, local authorities, and relevant stakeholders to discuss the infrastructure development plan for the Teuk Pous green eco-resort destination. The project is expected to create an attractive natural green recreational space, further boosting community income and living standards, following the success of similar developments in the Phnom Khnarsang area. Dr. Eang Sophalleth stated that the Ministry of Environment is collaborating with ministries, institutions, local authorities, and community residents within the natural protected area to develop the Teuk Pous green eco-resort destination. The plan focuses on improving infrastructure, including natural hot spring bathing areas, shower facilities, an information center, a community market, accommodation, parking, restrooms, sanitation facilities, tree planting, ornamental flower gardens, and cultural sites or places of worship. Phal Loeun, President of the Ko Doung Tei Natural Protected Area Community, confirmed that the green eco-resort development project will transform the Teuk Pous area into a greater tourist attraction, creating direct jobs and income for villagers and contributing to sustainable forest protection. Notably, Prime Minister Hun Manet has previously supported local infrastructure development, including providing solar power to 303 families in the community. In the near future, the Ministry of Environment will implement the green eco-resort development project, emphasizing community entrepreneurship and ownership, to ensure effective tourism service provision that enhances the sustainable livelihoods of the community. Technical officials have already conducted surveys, demarcated the development zone, and prepared plans for the construction of green infrastructure in the Teuk Pous green eco-resort destination area. The Teuk Pous area features unique natural attractions, including rare natural hot springs with temperatures ranging from 70 to 100 degrees Celsius, which some locals believe have therapeutic properties. In addition to this area, there are also the "Arak Forest," sites for religious worship according to the beliefs of the indigenous Suy people, and forest areas with wildlife and rich biodiversity that require sustainable conservation to enhance the aesthetic beauty and green cover for future generations.
