The Yangon Region Police announced that 99 offenders have been identified and apprehended in connection with 117 pickpocketing incidents that occurred in the Yangon Region over the past two months. The Yangon Region Police stated that they are accelerating efforts to maintain domestic security, ensure peace and prosperity in communities, and uphold the rule of law. To reduce group pickpocketing incidents on YBS (public bus) lines, bus stops, and in areas with high public traffic within the region's townships, security forces have been gathering intelligence and conducting undercover surveillance to identify and apprehend offenders. In these efforts, from April 20 to July 7, a total of 117 pickpocketing cases were investigated in Thanlyabin, Insein, Hlaingtharyar (East), Hlaingtharyar (West), Thanlyin, Botataung, Dagon Seikkan, Thaketa, Lanmadaw, Mingaladon, Dagon Myothit (North), Dagon Myothit (East), Dagon Myothit (Seikkan), Pabedan, Lanmadaw, Kyauktada, San Chaung, Mayangone, North Okkalapa, Kamayut, and Bahan townships. As a result, 99 offenders, comprising 94 males and 5 females, were identified, arrested, and prosecuted. The announcement also stated that 140 mobile phones and K6,570,000 in cash, which were evidence from the pickpocketing incidents, were seized. Furthermore, the announcement indicated that to reduce crime and eliminate corruption in the Yangon Region, daily activities are being carried out in collaboration with relevant administrative organizations in each district.
