BPO Workers Join Anti-Corruption Rally Over Flood Control Woes
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) workers in Metro Manila joined an anti-corruption rally, highlighting their struggles with frequent flooding and demanding better infrastructure, citing difficulties in commuting to their graveyard shifts.
MANILA, Philippines — Some call center agents, whose graveyard shift forces them to adjust their body clock to sleep during the day, chose to forego their daytime slumber and join Monday's anti-corruption march, which began at Liwasang Bonifacio. Kean Kumalat, one of 47 members of the BPO Industry Employees Network Philippines (BIEN) chapter in Cubao, recounted his ordeal: "I had to swim to work." He said that they were forced to adjust their body clock to sleep during the day, and since they were already awake, they decided to join the march against corruption.
