Indonesia Secures Deal for 12 Advanced Italian Fighter Jets

Indonesia's Ministry of Defense has signed a contract to acquire 12 advanced multi-role light fighter jets, the Leonardo M-346F, manufactured by Italy's Leonardo. The deal was finalized between the Italian company Leonardo and Indonesia's PT ESystem Solutions Indonesia. According to Leonardo's official website, this purchase follows a Letter of Intent (LOI) announced in February. The procurement plan includes the localization of various support capabilities, maintenance, major repairs, training, and human resource development. The company stated that the delivery of the aircraft is expected to begin around 2030. Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defense, confirmed the procurement plan. He stated that the Ministry of Defense procures defense equipment based on the operational needs of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) as part of the modernization of national defense. The procurement is being carried out through established procedures, taking into account personnel readiness, sustainability of logistics support, and the strengthening of the national defense industry. The acquired aircraft are planned to support the advanced training needs of Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) pilots and enhance their operational readiness. "The M-346F Block 20 procurement program is primarily aimed at supporting advanced pilot training needs and the operational readiness of the Air Force, especially in preparing pilots to adapt to modern aircraft technology," Rico said. Furthermore, this cooperation in aircraft procurement also aims to deliver long-term benefits through maintenance support, enhancing human resource capabilities, and strengthening the national defense industry's capacity.
