Reviewing edible oil purchases to ensure citizens do not suffer losses

Regarding edible oil purchases, reviews are being conducted to ensure that citizens do not suffer losses, said Dr. Khai Khai Soe, spokesperson for the State President's Office. Currently, although the state is distributing palm oil at affordable prices, it is said that some citizens are forced to buy it at high prices in the market. Dr. Khai Khai Soe stated that although the state is selling palm oil between 7,000 and 9,000 kyats per viss, the reason it reaches citizens at prices between 18,000 and 20,000 kyats per viss is due to profiteers. The state is prioritizing the sufficiency of edible oil, and it is said that palm oil is being continuously imported, taking into account the foreign exchange situation, to ensure that the current needs of citizens for edible oil are not unmet and that the market remains stable. Dr. Khai Khai Soe also stated that efforts are being made to ensure sufficient palm oil is available in major cities, including Yangon Region and Naypyidaw, and that the state needs to import over 50,000 tons of palm oil per month to meet the citizens' demand for edible oil. Imported palm oil is distributed at the designated reference price, and arrangements have been made for citizens with edible oil purchase books to buy it at affordable prices. Furthermore, due to the large population and high consumption needs in Yangon Region, a larger allocation has been made compared to other regions, Dr. Khai Khai Soe said.
