Cambodia and OIF Sign 5-Year Action Plan to Boost French Education

Cambodia and the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) have signed a five-year action plan aimed at strengthening French language education within the country. On August 5, 2026, Mr. Luy David, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the French Republic, acting on behalf of H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, signed this agreement with Mr. Désiré Nyaruhirira, Special Advisor to the Secretary-General of the OIF and acting representative of the OIF representation in the Asia-Pacific region. The action plan, under the cooperation between the OIF and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, focuses on the following key areas: 1. Reviewing the curriculum for French-Khmer bilingual education programs (grades 1 and 2) and science subjects taught in French. 2. Revising textbooks for the aforementioned bilingual programs and science subjects taught in French. 3. Developing the capacity of French language teachers and science teachers in French to use the new textbooks. 4. Creating a French language development platform on the OIF's educational platform for Cambodian teachers. 5. Developing a French language development package to enhance the capabilities of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. 6. Dispatching volunteer French language teachers to Cambodia. The signing of this cooperation agreement reflects the shared commitment of Cambodia and the OIF to promote the French language, enhance the quality of French language teaching and learning, and develop high-quality education.
