Badoy, in a Facebook post last week, claimed she was able to confirm that Ligutan, one of the private prosecutors in the impeachment trial, is a member of the NUPL, which she said was a "front" of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed and political groups, the New People’s Army (NPA) and the National Democratic Front (NDF), respectively. Responding to critics, Badoy later commented: "I never said Atty. Ligutan is a member of the CPP-NPA-NDF. I have no knowledge of that. Not all members of NUPL are members of the CPP-NPA-NDF. They are just being led down that road of radicalism then destruction and violent extremism." Ligutan, a top litigator who hails from Leyte province, is a managing partner of Saligal Law, a Cebu City-based law firm. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in BA Philosophy from the University of San Carlos before earning his law degree from UP. Red-tagging refers to the broad allegations made by the military, police and other security officials branding individuals or groups as either members or supporters of the communist rebels. In December that same year, a Quezon City RTC ordered Badoy to pay TV journalist Atom Araullo a total of P2 million in civil damages for the "grave damage and injury" he suffered from her defamatory remarks in her Sonshine Media Network International show with Jeffrey Celiz. In May this year, the Professional Regulation Commission suspended Badoy’s medical license for six months over her malicious remarks branding community doctor Natividad “Doc Naty” Castro and the Alliance of Health Workers as allies of the communist movement.
