Military Council says Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is in very good health, cannot meet international representatives

This was in response to a reporter's question at a press conference held yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw by the spokesperson for Min Aung Hlaing's government, following the statement by her son, Kim Eric, that he was very concerned about Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's health. "Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's health condition is very good. There are no problems. There are no difficulties. She is completely well. Regular medical check-ups are also being conducted," she said. However, the military did not mention where or how Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is being held. It has been reported that State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is suffering severely from heart disease, osteoporosis, and geriatric diseases, according to her son Kim Eric in an interview with the Japanese news agency Kyodo News. Kim Eric also stated that although the Min Aung Hlaing government announced that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was transferred to house arrest when amnesty was granted in 2026, there is no evidence of this. Politicians have criticized that the transfer to house arrest should only be to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's residence on University Avenue. Not only was she not allowed to move to house number 54 on University Avenue, but the military also removed a photograph of her father, General Aung San, which was hung in front of the house on June 15. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was illegally arrested during the military coup in February 2021 and was imprisoned under various charges. Daw Khine Khine Soe also stated at the press conference in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday that international representatives will only be allowed to meet those who are arrested and imprisoned after Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has served her sentences. Military leader Min Aung Hlaing frequently blames the NLD and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for the widespread difficulties in Myanmar, attributing them to alleged election fraud in the 2020 elections.
