Former Takeo Police Chief Awaits Justice Amid Disciplinary Action

A former police chief in Takeo province's Bati district has filed a complaint against his disciplinary dismissal, alleging he was unfairly targeted after following orders. The provincial police chief is reportedly conducting further investigations into the matter. Mea Vutha (Lieutenant Colonel), the former police chief of Chompok commune in Bati district, was dismissed on August 13th by a decision from the National Police General Commissariat. He was reassigned as an intervention officer at the Takeo Provincial Police Headquarters, reportedly due to disciplinary violations. However, Vutha claims the dismissal is unjust. He stated in an interview with "Kampuchea Thmey" on September 4th that his removal stemmed from orders given by the Bati District Police Inspector (Colonel) and Deputy Inspector (Colonel). Specifically, he was instructed to report the arrest of three drug suspects as only two, and to release one of the apprehended individuals who was identified as a police officer from the district police inspectorate. Vutha contends that he was merely following superior orders. Following the widespread dissemination of the issue on social media, Vutha met with Major General Men Ly, the Takeo Provincial Police Commissioner, on September 5th. According to Vutha, Commissioner Ly advised him to wait for a suitable resolution. Vutha expressed his desire for a renewed investigation into his case and for those truly responsible to be held accountable. He is currently awaiting a decision from the leadership, hoping for justice and vindication. This case raises questions about internal directives within the Cambodian police force and the fairness of disciplinary actions.
