Laymyethna Floods: Yangon Volunteer Groups Head Out to Provide Aid

Volunteer groups from Yangon are heading out to provide assistance and rescue operations in Laymyethna town and surrounding villages in Ayeyarwady Region, which are experiencing floods due to a breach in the Ngwon dam, according to some volunteer groups. It is reported that the volunteer groups departed from Yangon on the night of July 31 and arrived in Laymyethna town in the early morning of August 1, where they have begun rescue operations. According to the volunteer groups who have traveled to Laymyethna town and are carrying out rescue operations, there are still people trapped in some of the flooded villages. Myanmar Fire Brigade members are also carrying out rescue operations in Laymyethna township and have announced that they are relocating flood-affected residents to safe areas. According to information received as of July 31, 1,320 houses, 1,333 households, and 6,747 people have been evacuated to safe areas in Laymyethna township, and there have been no human or animal casualties, according to the Ayeyarwady Region government. Furthermore, it has been learned from the regional government that rice, dried noodles, mineral water, and food items have been provided to the flood-affected residents, and necessary assistance will continue to be provided.
