Large Trailer Overturns and Collides with Two Vans in Koh Kong Province

A large trailer truck overturned and collided with two parked vans in Koh Kong Province, Cambodia, due to driver error on a downhill curve. One person sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment at a local health center. According to local police, the accident occurred around 2:50 PM on July 28, 2026, in Jimal Village along National Road 48. The trailer truck (unregistered, blue, Phnom Penh plate 3D-2711), traveling from west to east in rainy conditions, lost control while descending a sharp curve and overturned. The driver (39 years old, from Ratanakiri Province) was unharmed. The two vans involved belonged to the Virak Bunthum company. The first, a cargo van (orange, Phnom Penh plate 3G-6650), had its driver (41 years old, from Kampong Thom Province) sustain minor head injuries. A passenger was unharmed. The second, a VIP passenger van (white, Phnom Penh plate 3G-7152), had its driver (41 years old, from Kandal Province) and 13 passengers (including 5 women) all unharmed. The two vans had pulled over to check on the overturned cargo van. Preliminary investigations by traffic police indicate that the cause of the accident was speeding and carelessness on a downhill curve. The injured individual was transported for treatment at the commune health center. All three vehicles have been impounded at the district police station pending legal proceedings. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of road safety in Cambodia, even as the country continues to develop its infrastructure.
