Thai Culture Minister Leads ICOMOS Evaluation Preparations in Chiang Mai

Sudarat Saida, the Minister of Culture (commonly known as "Sabida"), visited Chiang Mai province to assess the preparations for the upcoming evaluation by ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites). This evaluation is a critical step towards the region's inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Minister directed all involved parties, including local communities, government agencies, and relevant organizations, to strengthen their cooperation and ensure a smooth evaluation process. She emphasized the importance of securing the understanding and support of local residents in aligning the preservation and management systems of heritage sites with the evaluation criteria. This initiative highlights the Thai government's commitment to protecting and utilizing cultural heritage, as well as its aim to fully leverage the international tourism potential of Chiang Mai.
